SI-net upgrade
The SI-net upgrade delivered a new user interface, providing a simple and intuitive way for staff and students to use the program.
In 2018, SI-net was upgraded to the latest version of the underlying application, Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 9.2 (CS9.2). The system upgrade was necessary because vendor support for the existing version of SI-net (CS9.0) will expire in 2019. CS9.0 would no longer receive new features or functions from the vendor from that date.
Objectives
The project aimed to:
- upgrade the functional capabilities of SI-net
- patch the technology layers that SI-net runs on
- retire redundant data and interfaces
- reduce the scale and complexity of customisations within SI-net
- improve the capacity of SI-net to respond to evolving business requirements and regulatory obligations.
Benefits to UQ
The SI-net upgrade is the first step towards making SI-net mobile friendly, by introducing an intuitive interface. CS9.2 has additional features that can be implemented across UQ in future. It also offers:
- a reduced risk of vulnerabilities being exploited
- reduction of long term maintenance overheads
- a streamlined security model for staff (for easier maintenance)
- streamlined and simplified student self service functions
- simplified SI-net security access
- branding that aligns with my.UQ.
Timeline
