Suzanna Wong knew it would be an adjustment, but the opportunity was one she wanted to seize.

Associate Director
Enterprise Applications
Suzanna was working for a mortgage firm in Brisbane when a role as Production Support opened at The University of Queensland (UQ) in 2008.
“I wanted to hone my skills in a bigger organisation so I made the decision to change jobs,” Suzanna said.
It is a decision which has transformed into a near 15-year career with Information Technology Services (ITS) at UQ.
During that time, Suzanna, who graduated with a Masters in Computer Science in 2006, has worked across various roles, experienced organisation changes, and been promoted from team member to team leader.
“I used to struggle to put myself forward for roles and compete with my peers,” Suzanna said.
“I believe you need courage to go to the next step in your career. There is always room to learn and grow and you must rise to the challenge of learning within, and outside, your role.
“I am grateful for the supportive leadership throughout my career here at UQ. It’s a very empowering culture.”
Now the Associate Director, Enterprise Applications, Suzanna believes the longevity of her ITS career has been strengthened by a work environment which encourages development, collaborations and offers flexibility.
And it helps the organisation’s core values and mission align with her own ideals.
“UQ really believe in being a difference maker that impacts society and, in turn, adds meaning to your work,” Suzanna said.
