Brisbane City Council is delivering the turn-up-and-go Brisbane Metro at
UQ Lakes Bus Station, St Lucia Campus
Brisbane City Council has selected Brisbane Move to design and deliver the major infrastructure works for the project. Brisbane Metro will operate from Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street, and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital to The University of Queensland.
Major construction at the St Lucia UQ Lakes station commenced in August 2022 and continues until 2024. Construction activities include upgrading the existing station platforms, shelters and seating, as well as installing flash charging infrastructure.
The Brisbane Metro at UQ Lakes station will open to the public from 2024.
See Brisbane Metro website for more information.
UQ Lakes station changes from 29 May to early 2024
• Platform 1 (Stops B, D and E) is now closed to allow for upgrades. This includes the footpath providing direct pedestrian access to and from the Eleanor Schonell Bridge, with a detour in place via Sir William Macgregor Drive.
• All services will arrive and depart from stops A, C and F at Platform 2 only. Signage and support staff are in place at UQ Lakes station to direct bus users to alternate stops.
• The dedicated cycle way on the southern side of Eleanor Schonell Bridge is now open. Active transport users, including cyclists and scooters, are not permitted to use the dedicated pedestrian pathway.
• Refer to the wayfinding map (PDF, 243.1 KB) and on-site signage for access changes around the Eleanor Schonell Bridge and UQ Lakes station.
Brisbane City Council is working to streamline the transition, including increasing directional signage, monitoring bus services and ensuring the continued presence of support staff to assist passengers and pedestrians.
If you have any feedback, please contact Brisbane Move at brisbanemetro@acciona.com.
Refer to the Alternative access map (PDF, 243.1 KB) for UQ Lakes station changes, and pedestrian and active transport detours.

To facilitate the multiple stages of Brisbane Metro construction works at UQ Lakes station, Brisbane Move has been granted approval under the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 to remove 38 trees and clear vegetation from the surrounding area to make way for a new platform and improved pedestrian and cyclist connections.
Impacts to vegetation have been carefully considered by the project and minimised as much as possible. Importantly, 44 other trees within the works area are able to be retained. The Brisbane Metro project delivery team is committed to continuing to work with UQ regarding vegetation impacts and reinstatement.
