The Student Residences will deliver an outstanding experience for students by providing quality accommodation that is focused on student comfort and value for money.

Construction of the purpose-built student accommodation began in December 2019 and is located on the corner of Hood and Walcott streets at the St Lucia campus. The new on-campus living at UQ will increase the choice of accommodation for students and will contribute to an inclusive community of student residents.

In recent years, other Go8 universities have actively pursued a strategy to increase the number of beds on, or in close proximity to, their campuses, and to create an offering that is more attractive to a greater diversity of students. A UQ owned and operated student accommodation precinct would drive student learning, retention and recruitment outcomes, and position the University alongside other Go8 universities in providing on-campus accommodation to the mobile student population. When complete, the purpose-built student accommodation will boast 14 residential floors which house 610 beds with ensuites, with the remaining two levels used for communal activities.

Through proposed additional retail offerings, the Student Residences Project and residents of the surrounding colleges will create a diverse and thriving community hub.

Development commenced in December 2019 with residents anticipated from Semester 1, 2022. In addition to the construction, the existing Cairngorm homestead on the site will be preserved, along with the two mature fig trees. For construction updates, please click here.
