Health and Recreation Centre Program

The new UQ Health and Recreation Centre will be located near the basketball and tennis court sites on Blair Drive, adjacent to Saint Lucy’s Caffé.

UQ plans to construct a new world-class, integrated health, wellbeing and sports facility in the near future. The Health and Recreation Centre, located on Blair Drive and Sir William MacGregor Drive, will provide:

• an ultra-modern fitness centre managed by UQ Sport, as well as professional healthcare provided by UQ Health Care,
• physiotherapy services and student-led clinics specialising in sports and musculoskeletal injuries through Musculoskeletal and Sports Injury (MSSI/MSK) and Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences (HaBS)
• dedicated health and wellbeing space for staff members, managed by UQ Wellness. 

The new centre will give students an opportunity to gain practical experience in professional health, recreation and fitness settings, as well as offering our researchers a state-of-the-art centre to put their research into practice. Provided for the benefit of students, staff and the local community, the centre will strengthen UQ’s position as Australia’s number one ranked university for sports-related subjects.

Timeline

The UQ Sport Fitness Centre, UQ Health Care, MSK, HaBS and UQ Wellness activities will continue with business as usual until completion of the new complex. There will also be a new clubhouse to meet the needs of UQ Sport, the UQ Tennis Club and Saint Lucy’s patrons. This solution will be in place before the existing space is redeveloped.
