Our vision: Inspiring a culture committed to the health, safety and wellness of the UQ community.

The Health, Safety and Wellness strategy 2022-2026 will take UQ beyond compliance, embed health and safety in our operations and decision making, enhance the wellness of all in our community, and increase our safety capability. This new strategy will continue to focus on the influence of leaders in setting the overall safety culture of the organisation and highlight the need for UQ to embrace the wellbeing of our staff and students. It provides focus on enhancing the wellness of our community to support excellence in education and research in a healthy and safe environment.

UQ is recognised as a health, safety and wellness (HSW) leader in the sector, and have these HSW objectives:

  • Supervisors are aware that they influence the safety culture in their work areas and that their behaviour is the key to ongoing improvement.
  • Leaders demonstrate their accountability and personal commitment to UQ’s cornerstone HSW principles.
  • All members of the UQ community are confident that their health and safety is protected at UQ and is given the highest priority.
  • People make informed decisions to prevent harm without constraining our core business of learning, discovery and engagement.
  • Our people feel safe to raise concerns and speak truthfully about matters that impact their health, safety and wellbeing.
  • We examine what goes well and any issues that arise and use both as an opportunity for learning and continuous improvement.
